Alex FM’s Mahlodi Rips Apart History Books

The South African sports broadcasting world is one of the toughest to break into and remain in it, more so for females as it has long been a male-dominated industry.

However, Alex FM’s Sports Presenter Mahlodi Ranku has become the first-ever female sports journalist at the community radio station to lift an award.

The Beautiful Game exclusively had a chat with the confident and self-assured Mahlodi. We started off by asking her when did she commence her role as the sports presenter of the sports show, she said;

“It’s been a year since I started hosting the sports show on Alex FM. Admittedly, a role I never thought I would earn that soon but I did through passion ans dedication.

The outspoken Mahlodi recently picked up an Award, becoming the first female to do so at the station since it’s inception in 1994, on the gong she won and how it made her feel, she said;

“It was for ‘The best program of the year, in Johannesburg.’ This award means a lot to me, it means I am stepping in the right direction, it means my dreams are within reach.

For buzzing female sports journalists and presenters, she gives them a short and precise message, saying;

“There will never be a better you, so come in as you are,” she concluded.
