Baxter: We Won’t Play Route One
Posted: 30 July 2021

Returning Kaizer Chiefs Head Coach Stuart William Baxter has ensured club supporters that they will not be playing route one football in the coming season.

The Beautiful Game asked Baxter in the Carling Black Label Cup prematch presser as to the type of football to expect from Chiefs in the 2021/2022 campaign, and he said to us;

“I don’t remember in Kaizer Chiefs’ history where they played route one football, so I’m guessing that you won’t see route one. We have some technical players.

“South Africans nature, their technically adept, that is not weakness in their awry. We just have to make that technique efficient, and we have to make that technique the winning technique, and not just an entertaining technique that losses games of football – I think that’s the challenge that all coaches face in South Africa.

“We’ll do our best to find a good balance that supporters are proud of, and we want to get results that our supporters are proud of. We work very hard on our attacking play, we work very hard on our defensive play and transitional play,” concluded Baxter.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys will make a short drive to the Orlando Stadium on Sunday to face their arch rivals, Pirates in the one-off final, with kickoff pencilled in for 17:H00pm.
