Pitso: What Is He Saying To People?

Ah Ahly Head Coach Pitso Mosimane recently held an emotional and educative interview with one of the radio stations in South Africa about how he has adjusted to life in Egypt.

However, the outspoken Coach was irked by the fact that foreign coaches who have been in the country for two years and more, cannot speak any South African languages, saying;

“Ja if you want to go to Rome, you gotta do what the Romans do, so that’s one thing. You know sometimes I don’t understand people who come to South Africa and they don’t even know how to greet in Zulu, and the guy is two years there, I mean what are you saying to the people you are working with?

“I mean if you know Salām ‘Alaykum Wena and you’re not even working here and somebody doesn’t know ‘siyabonga kunjani’, I mean what is that? It really shows that you are not prepared to work with the people. If someone comes to work there and knows the language, you’ll say ‘oh so this one knows the language’, and we’ll have an interest in the guy.

“So I had to adapt and adopt to the culture, I had to understand how they eat and I had to structure my training sessions according to their religion and you know the guys pray five times a day, so I that to adjust to that,” concluded Pitso.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor has lifted all the trophies on offer ever since switching Pretoria for Cairo in the last couple of months, and recently picked up his third CAF Champions League title.
