Notoane Reflects On U23’s Mauling

The South African football team will be arriving in the country in the next couple of days after their dismal showing at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Amagluglug were unable to secure a single point after losing all three matches in the group stages, and yesterday they were humiliated by Mexico with the scoreline of 3-0, and the team’s Head Coach, David Notoane reflects on the performance of his lads, saying;
“Our game against Mexico, today (yesterday) was very disappointing, especially in the first half, again, defensive mistakes, really, it didn’t give us any hope or having a shout of qualification to the next round.
“At 2-0 going into the break, it was far off from us. We were not really in the game, we didn’t push Mexico, they really pushed us, and we knew that we were really playing against a efficient team.
“A team that is well drilled in terms of their attack, a team that was very strong in breaking us in the middle and we made those two mistakes in the central areas. I thought in the second half, we managed to get a bit of life into the boys; a bit of self-belief to try and get back into the game, and unfortunately we conceded the third goal.
“So it was a difficult evening, not much left in the legs of the boys, after the France game, it took a lot out of us really, and it showed today,” concluded Notoane.
Notoane’s contract effectively ended yesterday after the tournament, and is set to meet with SAFA’s hierarchy to see if his deal will be extended or not.
