Orlando Pirates Football Club is one of the biggest teams on the continent and never mind the country, and that’s how a certain, tactically astute coach gives appreciation to the Sea Robbers.

Owen Da Gama, currently of TS Galaxy FC, tells The Beautiful Game how his move to Pirates put him on the map, saying to us;

“I didn’t have a contract at HP Silver Stars, it was a gentleman’s agreement and I moved to Orlando Pirates from there, it was by default. Tim was the one who made it possible for me to move to Pirates and I met with the Chairman (Dr. Irvin Khoza).

“It was a twenty (20) minutes meeting and there was already a contract on the table, that’s how sharp they are. It was an absolutely great step in my career.

“And the Chairman told me ‘If you’re a coach here at Orlando Pirates, you’re going to be more in the newspapers than the President’, I didn’t believe that until I saw it. So I think Pirates actually, really put me on the map and I must thank the Chairman for giving me that opportunity,” concluded Da Gama.

The Rubber Doll, as he is known in football, has brought stability and security to The Rockets since his appointment a couple of months ago and they might secure their status in this league within the next month after the international break.
