Orlando Pirates Football Club progressed to the finals of the MTN8 tournament after winning 2-0 against rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium this afternoon.

The Sea Robbers will face off with the ever-improving Bloemfontein Celtic next month at a venue yet to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League.

Two second half goals from Deon Hotto and Linda Mntambo condemned The Phefeni Glamour Boys to a embarassing 5-0 aggregate defeat, which will likely require a Monday morning meeting out at Naturena to discuss the performance of the players.

Gavin Hunt’s side started the game much better of the two sides with intricate play and showed much more hunger, with Khama Billiat trying to create opportunities for Chiefs, but The Sea Robbers had their number, defending deep in the opening exchanges to frustrate their opponents.

Pirates played with a plan of counting attacking their nemesis, and it worked for them with their pacey wingers, with Hotto and Vincent Pule troubling Chiefs’ full-backs.

Returning head coach Josef Zinnbauer will be happy with yet another clean sheet and going into the international break, the German will surely be the much happier of the two coaches, with Hunt having to work wonders at Naturena in the next fortnight.

Hunt’s problems will be compounded with the red-card of Eric Mathoho, who will miss two games after receiving two yellow cards with two minutes left to play.
