Ronwen: He Said I’m Fat!
Posted: 7 June 2020
SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was recently handed the armband of the club after long-serving midfielder Dean Furman left for the United Kingdom to be closer with his family. However, Williams recalls how he was called overweight by his former manager Stuart Baxter, saying;
“Three years ago, I had a stern warning from Coach Stuart Baxter, because I came back from a long-term injury. I was out for like two months and I came back, I didn’t know that I picked up so much weight and this injury reoccurred, he (Baxter) came to me with his angry face and said ‘You know what your problem is? You’re fat, you’re overweight’!
“To be honest, that was the first time ever that someone was so blunt and honest with me, and I saw it in his eyes that he was dead serious,” concluded Williams.
Williams has been at United for more than a decade and has amassed more than 300 appearances for the first team, winning multiple knockout competitions with the club.
