Majents: They Said We Must Apologize!
Posted: 13 May 2020
Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana defender Edward Motale has reminisced about how the Argentina squad reacted to his tricks and flicks while they played in an international friendly. Majents, as Motale is known in football, says the likes of Doctor “16V” Khumalo, Mark Fish, and the late John Shoes Moshoeu ran riot and confused the South Americans, saying;
“Ja, I remember when we played against Argentina, I dribbled (Ariel Arnaldo) Ortega, and he was the star of Argentina during those times, and after the game, they (Argentina players) came to me and asked ‘As a defender, why do you dribble? What system are you guys playing because we don’t see it’,
He continued; “Broer (my brother), we were everywhere, one moment Doctor (Khumalo) is here, the other Shoes is there, the next Fish is in their eighteen area attempting to score (Laughs), so we confused those guys, they even said we must apologize to them after the game, I refused!,” concluded Majents.
The Pretoria-born defender is one of the most welcoming and hilarious footballers to play the game and has promised to let us in on his time as a professional footballer. Majents played for Dynamos, but was known for his time at Orlando Pirates as a skilful and tactically-aware defender.
