Why Khune Isn’t Playing At Chiefs
Posted: 16 March 2022
Arguably one of the best goalkeeper of our generation, Kaizer Chiefs FC showstopper Itumeleng Khune has not enjoyed much gametime in recent years due to various reasons.
The Beautiful Game exclusively spoke to Chiefs’ Head Coach Stuart William Baxter, who told us why Khune has not played much in recent months, saying;
“As I said, we’ve got such competition amongst our goalkeepers that you could be sitting on the bench or you could be seen on the starting eleven in the next game, and that’s the competition that we’ve got.
“And, the credit that I give to Itu is the fact that he has had such an outstanding career, he played for me in the national team. He played for me for Kaizer Chiefs in the title-winning team, and he finds himself in a team that arguably the best goalkeeper squad in the league.
“And he is still coming to training every morning doing his work and making himself as available as possible – so that’s the credit I will give him,” he concluded.
The Klerksdorp-born ‘keeper still remains part of the club’s plans and has been showing signs of possibly returning to the starting eleven of the Amakhosi.
