Mokwena: We’ve Improved Our Schemes
Posted: 30 November 2021
Mamelodi Sundowns FC Co-Head Coach Rhulani Mokwena has exclusively told The Beautiful Game on how they’ve conceded the least goals this season.
The Brazilians have only let in a mere two (2) goals in twelve (12) games, whilst hitting the back of the net on twenty one (21) occasions.
Mokwena, one of the Coaches at Chloorkop, explains how they’ve improved on their defensive schemes, saying;
“Look, we have certain schemes in our play, without exposing too much. It is clear that we don’t defend from the defensive line and we don’t only rely on our goalkeepers.
“The way you defend is in reflection in what you do when you are in possession of the ball, we are very clear on that. Now the relationship in what we do in possession; how we use the ball, and what possessions we take up, we know that now that influences the breakdown and the reaction thereafter when we are out of possession.
“So a lot of work that we do in the team is about our offensive principles and your offensive principles reflect immediately when you are out of possession and all big teams have that,” he concluded.
Sundowns will travel to Western Cape to entertain Stellenbosch FC on Saturday evening in a galvanizing fixture.
