Thank You, Sergio Kun Aguero!
Posted: 16 December 2021
On the second of June, 1988 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the world welcomed Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo, a man who went on to become one of the greatest finishers of his generation.
The short, stocky built Aguero holds records on that little green thing we call a football pitch; becoming the youngest footballer to play in the Argentine Premiere Division at just 15 years and 35 days old, and also becoming one of the most-expensive teenagers in world football when he moved from Argentina to Spain in a move worth €23m to sign for Atletico de Madrid.
Kun, as he is also known in the streets of Argentina, has lifted the Don Balón, the Golden Boy, and the World Soccer Young Player of the Year. Agüero also won the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup while in Madrid.
His stock continued to rise and in 2011, he joined Manchester City in a reported move of £35m, where he went on to become the club’s all-time record goal-scorer, lifting the English Premier League title on five occasions, FA Cups, and League Cups among others.
Unfortunately, Aguero cut short his playing career in a press conference in Barcelona yesterday at the tender age of 33 due to a heart condition, having joined the Blaugrana just six months ago.
From everyone at The Beautiful Game, football lovers across the globe, we would like to say, thank you for the memories, Sergio Kun Aguero, enjoy your retirement, Legend!
