Tinkler: We Need To Kill Off Games!

Western Cape side Cape Town City FC picked up three vitals points against an unpredictable Maritzburg United team last night at the DHL Stadium, winning 3-2.

The game was under threat when City’s team manager’s car was broken into hours before kickoff and had player registration cards stolen, with the match effectively being played under protest.

However, Tinkler has welcomed the victory but pointed to the importance of killing off football matches, saying;

“Obviously a very important win for us at home. I thought we started the game very, very well, we started the game lively, we put them under immense pressure with the high press, forced them into a mistake and got an early lead.

“In the first half, I really think we should’ve killed the game with the chances we had. The only really threat was the long ball they were playing in behind with the three players upfront, who were looking to make the runs in behind.

“Once we got the second goal, it was then important to now get the third and we had the chances to get three, four and five to really kill off the game. We were disappointing defensively and I can’t really put my finger on what the issue is but defensively we making way too many errors and that’s something we have to rectify,” concluded a visibly frustrated Tinkler.

The victory takes The Citizens to seventeen (17) points with three more catch up games they have to play before the recess of the league.
