‘Professor’ Recalls Special Siwelele Moments
Posted: 19 October 2021
Bloemfontein Celtic might have been sold, but the memories, the chants, the special times still lives through the veins of one of the best buys the club have ever made.
Mark ‘Professor’ Mayambela exclusively speaks to The Beautiful Game about the times when supporters and fans alike would call the ball on his behalf, saying;
“You know, even in that moment when it’s happening (Bloemfontein Celtic supporters chanting his name), you can pinch me, I would not feel that because there’s so much emotions that go through and it takes me back to the 21-year-old that used to dazzle opponents at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium.
“It takes my memories to the team mates that I had, it takes me back to the defeats, the wins, the fights with the Coaches, the bosses, and the connection I had with the people of Bloemfontein.
“I remember we would go to high schools (for soccer clinics and club PR work) and when the kids see me through the windows, and we’d get the at 11am, then school would be adjourned at 11am because they would scream, the entire school would want to get out of classes and want to meet me. So Celtic was really a special place for me and my family,” he concluded.
In recent months, there has been talks that the club might be making its way back to the professional ranks of South African football, however, nothing has materialized as of yet. Mayambela hopes the club can return to the top-division sooner rather than later.
