South African and African giants Mamelodi Sundowns continued their spotless start to the 2021/2022 DSTV Premiership season after brushing aside Swallows FC 3-0 last night.

However, the victory was, to some extent marred by the sent-off of The Brazilians’ Senior Coach, Steve Komphela. The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor is normally cuts a calm and collected figure on the bench, however, he was given two-quick red cards last night in the victory. The Beautiful Game asked Co-Head Coach Rhulani Mokwena of the sent-off, and he said to us;

“Ja, on Coach Steve’s send off, I was on the opposite side of the bench so I’m not so sure what really happened, so it becomes very difficult to conclude and share my feelings without knowing really what happened.

“I think we will find out from him and we will found out with the club and I think the club will deal with the matter if it needs to be dealt with. This is football you know, we are all in certain moments…we wear our hearts on our sleeves and we know how passionate Coach Steve is.

“We know how much he loves the club and how much he is prepared to fight for every situation so I don’t see anything wrong with that. And to be honest, as I said, I don’t know enough to conclude on the matter,” concluded Rhulani.

Komphela, a fantastic motivator of note, will be sorely missed on the bench in Sundowns’ next two DSTV Premiership fixtures after the international break.
