Stellies Set Barker’s Mandate
Posted: 7 September 2021
Western Cape DStv Premiership side Stellenbosch FC are now competing in the top-division for the third straight season ever since being promoted in the 2018/2019 campaign.
Stellies had a poor season last term, surviving on the last day and subsequently finishing 14th. The Beautiful Game recently had an exclusive chat with the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Rob Bernadie, who told us of Head Coach Steve Barker’s mandate, saying;
“In terms of the mandate, we sit as a technical team and the management team and we decide what our objectives are at the beginning of every season and also as Coach Steve was saying, we do try to look at a rolling three-year cycle on a strategy as well.
“So yes of course we are a football club with football players and every team wants to try and win the league, everyone starts with zero points, play thirty games. So when we play the first game in the Nedbank Cup, we want to win it, so yes we’ll aim for that and I suppose most clubs will tell you they want to be in top eight and so do we, that is our aim,” he said.
Stellies currently sit second on the DSTV Premiership standings with four points after a draw and a victory. Barker will next take his side to the North when they tackle Sekhukhune United this weekend.
