FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu shocked the football World yesterday when he resigned just before 23:00 CET.

Bartomeu, plagued with corruption and mismanagement of the club, decided to drag along his entire board members, who also left the Nou Camp.

The decision sees a new lease of life for Lionel Messi, who has been at loggerheads with Bartomeu for various reasons including the sale of close pal and superstar Neymar, the appointment of Eric Ebidal as technical director and a lack of investment in the playing personnel were some of the issues that irked Messi.

Now with the exit of Bartomeu, The Beautiful Game has been led to believe that La Pulga, as Messi is affectionately known in Spain, might reconsider leaving Barca in the summer of 2021 and stay beyond next summer.

The Catalan giants have started the campaign in poor fashion and will be hoping to pick up form with the scalp of another European giant in Juventus later tonight in Europe’s premium competition.
