Newly-appointed FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has told the club’s hierarchy to sign Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

The 29-year-old Netherlands international has been a key figure to Koeman’s revival of the national team, where they reached the latter stages of the European Nations League.

Koeman sees the midfield workhorse as a key component to his plans at the Nou Camp. It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp will allow Gigi to leave Anfield this summer.

There is a possibility of Wijnaldum leaving as The Reds are eyeing Bayern Munich and Spanish international midfield general Thiago Alcantara this summer, with Liverpool quoted €30m for the naturally-gifted footballer.
