‘I Trust My Players’

ABSA Premiership club Cape Town City have been one of the few clubs that have adjusted well to the “bubble”, registering three wins out of four, and subsequently, garnering nine points out of a possible twelve. The clubs head coach, Jan Olde Riekerink, says he is not worried about any “arrogance” creeping in from his players, saying;

“I can say that it is not the attitude of our players (referring to arrogance); the attitude of my players is working hard at training. They really are close to one another; their always together, their very good off the pitch, so I am not scared of saying I can lose them (concentration).

“We want to be in the first eight, and they know we are not in it yet, they know. There are still a lot of teams close to each other, so we have to work hard against Highlands Park and SuperSport United (their next fixtures)
“The two clubs (Highlands and SuperSport) are our direct rivals for those positions, so it’s our job to show in the next games that we want the top eight finish. To be honest, I trust my players and that is the biggest compliment a coach can give to his players,” concluded the Dutchman.

The Citizens will be looking to continue their fine form and possibly finish higher than their preferred top eight bracket, with the league set to finish on the fifth of September.
