Van Dyk: It’s Only the Beginning!
Posted: 12 May 2020
English giants Liverpool shocked the football world when they signed defender Virgil Van Dyk for an astonishing £75m (R1.7b) from Southampton on the 1st of January 2018. The towering Center back, who has gone on and helped Liverpool win the European Champions League and Club World Cup, has insisted that it is only the beginning for him at Anfield.
When asked how it felt for signing for the sleeping giants of world football, he said;
“It was surreal for me to have to make a decision [between Liverpool and other top clubs] where to go to at the time. The instant feeling was there with Liverpool and they ticked most of my boxes. When I went to Celtic I didn’t realize how big they were at the time, but I had a feeling before I joined Liverpool how big Liverpool really were, he concluded.
Liverpool have lifted the Champions League on five occasions, and Van Dyk says he wants more with the club, “It’s been a good road so far that I have taken to where I am today, everything happens for a reason. I have come from hard work and a lot of dedication and that is something I am very proud of.
“It’s something that should inspire a lot of young players that are out there that don’t have the attributes of those who have been playing at the highest level since they were 16. There is another way to winning the Champions League. I am very proud of my journey so far and it has not finished yet,” concluded the Dutchman.
The 28-year-old is currently the best defender in world football and UEFA’s Best Player, and says there is more to come from him and his club.
