Posted: 9 May 2020

ABSA Premiership team SuperSport United have recently promoted their former skipper Thabo September as their new assistant coach to Kaiteno Tembo. The 37-year-old donned the colors of the club for a decade and won the league title on three occasions, from 2007 – 2010.

The club has always been loyal to their former players and have decided to offer the opportunity of assisting to one of their most trustworthy soldiers in September. The Knysna –born defender, told us about the reason he decided to pursue a coaching career, saying;

“Uhm, its passion of the game I guess, and spending time with the players. But firstly I wanted to learn everything about the club; I spent time in marketing and then spent time in the Academy. Later, it then clicked that I can still give an input and assist in the development of the first team players and help the coach”

When asked about how it feels working closely to head Coach Kaiteno Tembo, he said “It’s been great I think, having worked with him as a player and he took over when Gordon (Igesund) left. So, it’s always been a great relationship, it is a privilege to work with someone like him because I get to learn so much on the other side of coaching,” he concluded.

The soft-spoken September will be looking to add more quality to the team in the next couple of months and has said he is ready for the challenge of being an assistant coach.
