Mokwena: Why We Signed Ralani

South African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns FC surprised many a couple of weeks ago after confirming the signature of Cape Town City’s midfielder Surprise Ralani.

The surprise was due to the player’s age, who turns thirty five (35) later this year. However, the club’s Co-Head Coach Rhulani Mokwena explains the logic behind Ralani’s signing, saying;

“Ralani’s recruitment obviously brings a lot of question marks, particularly because of his age, but in football, the most important thing in recruitment, is always try to bring the right player.

“And sometimes the right player is not between the certain age. The right player is sometimes because of the needs of the team and how you improve the quality and the strength of the team.

“There are two ways in improving the team; one by training and to improve certain aspects, secondly, you can do that by recruiting players. We’ve decided to go that type of direction because of the profile the type of player Ralani is, the contribution he made at Cape Town City has been immense,” concluded Mokwena.

The gifted midfielder will be looking to add quality to the already-impressive Sundowns offensive lines in the second half of the campaign.
