South Africa’s worst-kept transfer secret was completed yesterday just after lunchtime when Mamelodi Sundowns FC confirmed the signing of SuperSport United star Teboho ‘Tebza’ Mokoena.

The Betlehem-born box-to-box midfielder joins the Brazilians on a four and a half year deal from rivals Matsatsantsa. The 24-year-old was rightly emotional, saying;

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank SuperSport United for granting me the chance to play football in 2015. They welcomed me with warm hands, I arrived a boy and leaving a man.

“I’m also grateful for all the trophies I won with SuperSport; the trophies we won together and the way they treated me, I’m really grateful to the club.

“I would also like to thank Mr. Stan Matthews (SuperSport United’s CEO), the Chairman (Mr. Khulu Sibiya), the technical team, the players, and the fans because I am here because of them.

“If it wasn’t for them, the team and their support, I wouldn’t have been here or achieved what I achieved, so I am really grateful to them,” concluded an emotional Mokoena.

United are also set to lose mercurial playmaker Sipho Mbule in this window or at the end of the 2021/2022 campaign to Kaizer Chiefs FC, with Sundowns also interested in the Bafana Bafana international.
