The Beautiful Game recently had an exclusive chat with former Mamelodi Sundowns FC midfielder, Tiyane Mabunda who shockingly retired from football at the start of the 2021/2022 DSTV Premiership season.

Mabunda, who also turned out for Black Leopards and Free State Stars, tells The Beautiful Game of his unexpected decision;

“It was unexpected on my side, I feel God had prepared me prior and I’d probably had time to finish off everything, but I think now, I’m actually enjoying it more now because it gives me the time to be with the people who have been supporting me.

“Also, it gives me a time to thank those who supported my career through thick and thin, spend more time with family, spend more time in church and spend more time in prayer – so it gives me a great opportunity to have more time to myself and reconnect to the realm behind me,” he concluded.

Mabunda has since been given a plum responsiblity of being the club’s ambassador alongside colourful Tsholofelo Teko Modise.
