Kaitano: I Failed Mbule

Kaitano: I Failed Mbule
Posted: 30 November 2021

South African DSTV Premiership side SuperSport United have had a topsy turvey start to the 2021/2022 campaign.

Matsatsantsa recently drew 2-2 with cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the Tshwane derby, and United’s Head Coach Kaitano Tembo started with mercurial playmaker Sipho Mbule, who looked physically unfit due to his recent injury.

The Beautiful Game asked Tembo on why he replaced ‘The Chef’ in the 45th minute, he said;

“I think I made a mistake to start with Sipho Mbule, knowing his condition at the moment. I think he is not in the right condition to really start a game and I needed to protect him a little bit more and we didn’t do that.

“Ja look Karabo, Sipho is a very important player in our team and I think and I think he is also quite aware where he is in terms of his condition and I took a huge risk to start him.

“If you look at most of the games, he has been coming off the bench, coming in for fifteen or twenty minutes, and now, you throw him in a game like this, I needed to do a little bit more.

“So I’ll have a word with him and I think I’ve already spoken to him when I took him off, and the game had already changed when Sundowns scored, we needed to change,” he concluded.

The Bethlehem born star is normally unplayable on his day and will be looking to regain full match-fitness in the next couple of fixtures.
