The Big Chat With Pitso Mosimane
Posted: 26 October 2021
South Africa’s most successful Head Coach Pitso Jingles Mosimane continues to defy the odds with his Egyptian side Al Ahly SC.
The Beautiful Game catches up with the outspoken mentor and he tells us why he joined Africa’s premium club, saying;
“Over here (in Egypt), if you don’t win the Champions League, the league, you might as well look the other way huh. So, that’s why we’re here, on the edge. I can be in a comfort zone in South Africa and its fine, but then what?
“I’m done with comfort zone, I mean really, I must be on the edge, I must face the reality, and see what I have and just keep going. It’s easy to stay in a area and you win and win, but I think I like to face the cold front? I mean that’s what Gavin Hunt does, he faces the cold front.
“Other coaches, they stay in the comfort zone, they stay in a protected environment and they keep going in the comfort zone and that’s their life. I always say ‘You must jump’, and some coaches have jumped to face the world, and other coaches have jumped and others have said ‘Ey, I must go back to the warm environment’.
“So I respect coaches like Clinton Larsen, Gavin Hunt – those guys are eagles Karabo, they face the storm man, huh? I mean really, what are we saying here?’ he concluded.
Mosimane has once again challenged coaches and players alike to explore beyond the borders of South Africa to play and manage on the continent.
