Barker Explains Stellies’ Yo-Yo Results

Western Cape DStv Premiership side Stellenbosch FC started the 2021/2022 season in decent form and threatened to compete for the league title early on.

However, as games came in thick and fast, the club suffered defeats and draws in unexpected fashion. The Beautiful Game exclusively speaks to Stellies’ Head Coach, Steve Barker, who explains their indifferent form, saying to us;

“Yeah look I think we have been scoring goals as you’ve quite rightly said Karabo, but at the same time, in the last six (6) games we’ve conceded more goals. So it’s about finding a balance between being a difficult team to beat, which we were and I still believe we are.

“Sometimes you gotta look at performance over results, I do know it’s a results-driven game, but our performance against Royal AM, we were the better team – away from home.

“So I think it’s a combination of not leak in goals, we have to tighten up, because if you don’t concede, it puts you in a position to to win games. And then we just need to be a little bit more clinical in and around the box,” concluded Barker.

However, the varsity club remain in the mix and are third on the standings, with twenty nine (29) points from eighteen (18) games, one more point would ensure they remain in the top-flight next term.
