Bafana Bafana were agonisingly knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification after a serious dubious penalty decision given by a Senegalese referree.

Bafana’s Head Coach, Hugo Broos was left proud of his young charges but blasted the Match-day official, who gave decisions that were harsh on South Africa.

The Belgian said;

“I congratulate Ghana but I congratulate my boys also because we played against a very aggressive opponent which the referee allowed.

“I am very disappointed in the result but I’m proud of my players. But I have to say, the referee today allowed Ghana to be too aggressive.

“I have nothing against aggressive play but it has to be legal aggression.

On The penalty given, Broos said;

“I couldn’t see it. I just saw Daniel Amartey go down. He went down many times during the game, but I didn’t see the incident. But I saw my players were surprised,” he concluded.

Bafana will now miss the world showpiece in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon respectively, with the sole aim now on the 2024 World Cup and the AFCON in a year’s time.
