Former Bidvest Wits defender Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi has paid tribute to his family after experiencing one of the most difficult time of his football career.
Mkhwanazi, who spent an entire season without playing football after failing to agree terms with Tshakuma Tsha Madzhivandhila, has told The Beautiful Game of the support he received from his family, saying;
“I would like to thank my family first, because I think for them it was very hard, very difficult because they rely on my income. As much as they were broken, but they gave me that smile to give me hope, you know. The mother of my son as well, she constantly gave me hope as well.
“She kept on telling me ‘Its not done for you, you still have to go back’ – and it gave me much inspiration to be honest. The fans as well, honestly, at garages, wherever I’ll be, they’ll be saying to me ‘Even if you don’t join my club, but come back to football.’
“So those were the things that I would hear. So it was beyond which team I’m playing for, but it was coming from the heart, the love that supporters have for players. I just wish players would understand how supporters feel when we’re going through dark situations you know. So my family and the supporters played a huge role in me coming back,” concluded Mkhwanazi.
The lanky central defender has since signed for Matsatsantsa on a one plus one year contract and has already made a couple of appearances for the club.
