Barker: It Was Freakish
Posted: 3 September 2021

Western Cape side Stellenbosch FC survived the chop the scruff of their teeth last season after finishing 14th on the DSTV Premiership standings.

The club’s mentor, Steve Barker pin points the two main reasons why they had a bad 2020/2021 campaign, saying;

“I think on the field, I think it was just unfortunate that we had a season where in the first half of the season we let ourselves down with too many individual errors. It was quite freakish to have so many individual errors in many games which led to our opposition scoring, and it was uncharacteristic of us and those errors really did cost us.

“As season progressed, we just lacked the ability to score chances that we created so when you conceding soft goals and you not scoring your chances, it is a recipe to not be successful. So those are the main two reasons that didn’t allow us to have the season that we had previously,” he concluded.

Barker will be hoping for a much better season this calendar year after the club backed him in the transfer market with some glowing additions.
