Bucs Draw Up Managerial List
Posted: 17 August 2021
A new dawn is set to begin at Orlando Pirates Football Club after the Soweto giants parted ways with Josef Zinnbauer, who resigned yesterday just after 15:H10pm.
The German mentor cited the distance between himself and his family for his decision to step down, whilst those close to the man inform The Beautiful Game that Saturday’s loss to Moroka Swallows FC was the last straw.
Zinnbauer, who oversaw 68 games for The Buccaneers, leaves the club having won 35 games, drawing 20 and losing 13 games, delivering an MTN 8 title and finishing third twice.
Sources close to The Beautiful Game have told us possible replacements for the German, saying;
“It was long overdue, the supporters were really disgruntled. To be honest, he did fairly well but this is Orlando Pirates, more is always expected. The man was not helped by that 4-1 beating in the CAF Confederations Cup last season, of course they played away against Raja Casablanca but this is Pirates.
“The club will naturally appoint Mandla (Ncikazi) as interim Head Coach, but do not rule out the possibility of him taking over until the end of the season. There are talks of another European coach coming in but time is not on Pirates’ side.
“Another name I’ve heard is Benni McCarthy, he is seriously being considered. Another Coach was Gavin Hunt but he just joined Chippa United but never say never. At the moment, it looks like Mandla, with Davids, will help each other,” concluded our well-placed source.
We understand that Zinnbauer will be leaving the country before the end of this week as he clears his table at Pirates.
