Tinkler: Sometimes We’ll Play Ugly

Western Cape side Cape Town City FC progressed to the semifinals of the MTN 8 after winning 2-1 against favourites AmaZulu FC in Durban last night.

City’s mentor, Eric Tinkler says his side will need to learn to play ugly in some instances to get results this season, saying;

“Yeah it was tough, it was always going to be a tough game. One thing that I’ve tried to do since I’ve been here at Cape Town City is that it’s not always about pretty football in terms of getting results of, sometimes you have to play ugly football to get positive results.

“I thought we played really well in the first twenty 20 minutes, we looked good, we played according to plan and instructions, we played in the wide areas, we switched as well, so we did very well.

“We created one or two chances that led to a beautiful goal scored by Terrence. But I think immediately after that, we shut down and came back again, so I’m happy we through to the next round,” concluded Tinker.

The Cityzens will now face Swallows FC in the second MTN 8 semifinal, while Mamelodi Sundowns FC will travel to KwaZulu Natal to square off against Lamontville Golden Arrows in the first semifinal.
