Moroka Swallows FC Head Coach Brendon Truter has confirmed that the club have exercised their option on Bafana Tlakusane Mthetwa’s deal.

The midfielder is currently unavailable due to a anterior cruciate ligament injury that he sustained against Chippa United last season. Mthetwa is also set to undergo an operation, with Truter saying to The Beautiful Game;

“Bafana is still with us, he will undergo an operation on the 20th of August. There is work being done around his ligaments; the meniscus, the ACL, all of that, you understand?

“So it’s a massive loss for us – five man of the match Awards in the first half of the season, and we’ve already decided to activate the option (to one more year), we’ve seen how valuable he is.

“He immediately became our key player in the first half of the season, and majority of the team are prepared to work with the team as well. So, Bafana is still part and parcel of the team; yes the operation, the rehab, getting him match-ready, that would take us 8-10 months – that’s Bafana, but he is still part and parcel of this team, his contract was activated,” concluded Truter.

The influential workhorse is expected to be out until at least April next year with the ACL injury. The Beautiful Game wishes Bafana well and a speedy recovery back to full fitness.
