Khune: Maybe I Didn’t Fit In
Posted: 5 August 2021

Kaizer Chiefs FC goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune experienced one of the most nonplaying seasons in the last two campaigns.

The Beautiful Game asked Khune what he thought of the less minutes on the pitch in the last two years, and he said;

“Yeah…like I said, Coaches have different philosophies and I think the coaches in the past that have come in…I never probably fitted in their philosophy but as Coach Stuart just said, it’s all up to me as a goalkeeper, as a footballer.

“I want to adjust to the new philosophy but yes, I didn’t get enough game time (previously) and I was frustrated by the injuries I got. Sometimes the injuries would take longer than expected, then get back to playing and get another injury again.

“But, I think this season I think I will have to go back and see what is it that has worked for me over the years when I was avoiding injuries,” he concluded.

The 34-year-old looks set to be reinstated as the club’s number one this coming season, but competition will be tougher with the addition of Brandon Peterson.
