Pirates To Assess Midfielder’s Fitness

Pirates To Assess Midfielder’s Fitness
Posted: 2 August 2021

The first Soweto Derby of the season ended in an entertaining goal-less draw yesterday evening at the Orlando Stadium, however, Kaizer Chiefs FC lifted the Carling Black Label Cup after winning on penalties.

Nonetheless, Orlando Pirates Football Club’s Head Coach Josef Zinnbauer was particularly concerned with the fitness levels of midfielder Thabang Monare.

The former Bidvest Wits box-to-box midfielder struggled yesterday with the pace of the game, and ultimately being replaced in the 55th minute by Siphesihle Ndlovu.

The Buccaneers are set to work on the fitness of the 31-year-old and also to ensure that his ankle has completely healed after suffering from pain towards the end of last season.

Pirates’ season officially kicks off on the 14th of August 2021 when they welcome neighbours and rivals Swallows FC in the MTN 8 quarterfinals.
