Messi Lifts Copa, Becomes Football’s Ever Greatest?
Posted: 11 July 2021

World-renowned mega superstar Lionel Messi has now underlined himself as one of the great footballers the sport has ever seen after Argentina lifted the Copa America in the wee hours of this morning.

The Argentine national team faced hot-shot favourites Brazil in their own backyard of the Maracana Stadium in the final of the tournament, and Paris Saint Germain winger Angel di Maria scored the only goal of the encounter in the twenty-first (21st) minute to clinch it.

Messi, long criticised for not lifting any international trophy with his beloved country of Argentina, and quite rightly so, has now written his name in the folklore of football history.

La Pulga Atomica, as Messi is known in football, bar the latest addition to his glowing trophy cabinet, is an Olympic winner, a gold medalist in the U20 World Cup, has lifted the Balon D’Or six times (the only footballer to ever to so), three-time Europe’s Best Player, a record six European Golden Shoe winner, ten-time La Liga winner, seven Copa Del Rey winners’ medal, four-time European Champions League winner, three-time Club World Cup winner among other host of club and individual awards.

The streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, celebrated well into the morning after this historic achievement in the enemy’s territory, and what a way for Lionel Messi to rewrite the history books.

The Beautiful Game congratulates Argentina and the mercurial Messi on this momentous achievement, it is well-deserved, Lio.
