Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs FC pulled off one of their biggest victory yet in the club’s history after beating the much-fancied Wydad Casablanca of Morocco 1-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League last night.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys will bring a one-nil cushion to the FNB Stadium next week, with Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic saying;
“Uhm…I mean it was a great team effort, and I have very happy to have contributed to the victory. But we can’t still be celebrating because it’s still only half time and next week we playing them at home. We have to make sure that we win that game (second leg) as well.
When asked about the importance of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) he said;
“It is important, it is important, I mean it will bring less cheating. But like I said, I am very happy to have contributed to the victory because it was really a good team effort and we just have to continue with the same fighting spirit,” concluded Nurkovic.
The bulky forward’s goal was initially ruled out by the linesman, until VAR changed the decision to be a goal. Kaizer Motaung’s men will have a job to do in six days’ time and are beaming with confidence ahead of the second leg in Johannesburg.
