Mnqithi Reflects On Defeat In Egypt

South African Premier League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC were humbled 2-0 last night at the Cairo International Stadium by defending African Champions League holders Al Ahly SC in the first leg of the quarterfinals.
The Brazilians’ Co-Head Coach, Manqoba Mnqithi reflects on the defeat, saying;
“Like I expected, it was always going to be a tactical game, and I believe we played very well, we were very unfortunate not to score. I’ve never seen a team coming to Egypt and dominating Al Ahly SC, and to see Al Ahly SC playing a counter-attacking football at home was very interesting for me.
“This was the first half (referring to the first leg), the second leg will be in Johannesburg (Pretoria). We kept the ball very well, we played very good in the half spaces, we had them on the back foot, but unfortunately we didn’t take the chances that we got.
“We missed a header from a corner kick, I think we good in the second half. We were very, very good in the second half, and we should have benefitted. But surprisingly when we played better in the second half, we didn’t create as many chances as we created in the first half where we didn’t play as good,” concluded Mnqithi.
Sundowns will have a lot to do in the second leg at the Loftus Versveld Stadium on Saturday afternoon. However, if there is any team capable of turnarounds, it is The Brazilians.
