Broos: I Want To Make Bafana Big In Africa
Posted: 12 May 2021
South African football journalists descended at SAFA House, South of Johannesburg this lunchtime to hear the views and thoughts of Bafana Bafana’s new Head Coach Hugo Broos.
The 69-year-old Belgian, unveiled last week via Zoom, made it clear that he has a massive job on his hands but ready for the task, saying;
“First of all, I am very happy to be here in South Africa because this is a nice country and it is nice to be here. And on the football level, there is some potential. And secondly, during the negotiations, I felt this is a big country. I love the project, it’s not about needing the results tomorrow but I need to work for the future.
“For me, it is to make sure that South becomes a big nation in the future. When we talk about big nations in Europe and in Belgium, we are thinking about Senegal, we are thinking about Senegal, we are thinking about Nigeria, and okay South Africa, but for us, the big nations are the others.
“I felt SAFA wanted to be with them (big African footballing nations), it’s a huge thing to do but it’s a great experience for me, and that’s why I’m happy to be here. I am ready for that huge work that I have to do,” he concluded.
Broos also confirmed that he will be leaving the country on the 24th of May to return home to receive his second jab of vaccine on the 4th of June to remain protected from COVID-19.
The Belgian informed the media that he will have two assistant coaches, one from South Africa (yet to be named) and the other being Cedomir Janveski from Macedonia.
