KwaZulu Natal side AmaZulu FC dispatched and humiliated Cape Town City FC 5-1 yesterday evening in their own backyard to underline their status as direct competitors to Mamelodi Sundowns for the DSTV Premiership title.

Usuthu, who are on their longest unbeaten run in their entire club history, continue to rewrite the history books, and their Head Coach Benni McCarthy said of their capitulation of The Citizens;

“Uhm…a huge respect and a lot of love for my players; to go and do that to one of the best footballing teams in the country? You know Cape Town City, they are a fabulous team, good footballing team, scores a lot of goals and make life difficult for so many teams, and today we made them look average.

“These boys of mine, they don’t know what they are achieving and they don’t know what their slowly but surely accomplishing. You know they are on the brink of making history; the first AmaZulu team to go so many games unbeaten and so many games getting stronger and stronger.

“I am super, super proud of this team and I really can’t wait to see what we can achieve together and there are still six games to go and I hope we keep our focus and we remain humble,” concluded McCarthy.

Usuthu are only a point behind leaders Sundowns, with The Brazilians still having two catch up games, but football has never had a foregone conclusion and McCarthy’s lads can begin to dream.
