SAFA Go Foreign, New Coach Delayed

SAFA Go Foreign, New Coach Delayed
Posted: 24 April 2021

The South African Football Association will appoint a foreign coach in the next couple of days despite widespread calls for a local coach due to the short period of time there is to prepare for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

SAFA confirmed yesterday, just after 20:H00 South African time, that their new Coach has been delayed due to COVID-19 traveling issues. The Association went on to confirm that a new date will be set midweek.

Initially, they had planned to welcome the new man to the helm this afternoon at SAFA House, with sources close to The Beautiful Game confirming that former Bafana Bafana Head Coach Carlos Quieros is the frontrunner, followed by Frenchman and AFCON winner, Harve Renard.

The new Bafana Head Coach would have to hit the ground running with the World Cup qualifiers starting in June and still having to understand the South African culture, the mentality of the players, watch videos of foreign-based players, and all the technicalities of being a national team gaffer.
