Mnqithi: They Were Fresher

Reigning Premier Soccer League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC dropped two vital points against a strong AmaZulu side yesterday in Durban in what looked a six-pointer of a clash.

The Brazilians’ Co-Head Coach, Manqoba Mnqithi, tells The Beautiful Game why they found it hard to win the match, saying;

“Yeah, truth be told, we played 120 minutes at the weekend and it was always going to be difficult to have a team that is fresh as we want it to be, and you know most of these players were carrying a lot of minutes coming into this game, so it was a little bit difficult for these players.

“Yes of course a little bit more of character, a little bit more of composure when it mattered most would have turned things around. We got a very big chance at the end which I think if we were a little bit composed, we would have done better.

“There was another chance from Themba Zwane, which I think with a little bit more of composure, we could’ve dealt with the situation better but truth be told, players are not as fresh and the opponents are very fresh,” concluded Mnqithi.

The capital side welcome rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, who were beaten by Cape Town City FC yesterday at home, effectively making Sunday’s encounter a “must-win” for both outfits.
