Durban-based side AmaZulu FC were unlucky to come out with a goal-less draw against Mamelodi Sundowns FC as they created much better opportunities between the two clubs.

Usuthu, who remain second on the log standings and six points behind The Brazilians, are closing in on a historical second spot finish and possibly play continental football next season.

The Beautiful Game asked Head Coach Benni McCarthy if there might be complacency among the players and how he plans to deal with it if it does arise, and he said to us;

“At Ajax Amsterdam I won the Dutch league, I won a lot of things as a player, I won Championships at FC Porto, I won league titles, so uncharted territory maybe for other people but for me, no.

“I think we’ve shown the capacity that we can work under, and what we can achieve with the mindset and mentality we have. So my players know for one that we don’t have to take anything for granted.

“Whatever we’ve worked for, we’ve earned, and we would like to keep it that way and want to keep on working and working. When I get a question like that as to how do I keep my players grounded? My players are very grounded, more grounded than they’ll ever be because they have a coach where probably no player in South Africa has ever been, so they know charity begins at home, concluded McCarthy.

The former Cape Town City FC mentor will now welcome free-falling TS Galaxy on Saturday at home, with maximum points a top priority now for Usuthu if they are to wrestle Sundowns for the league title.
