Posted: 14 April 2021
South African leading football journalists descended at the headquarters of LaLiga South Africa in anticipation of a massive announcement set to be made by LaLiga SA today just after 10:H00am.
The announcement, which will see LaLiga South Africa partner and bring the best youth tournament in world football, the Iber Cup into the country, was made by LaLiga SA Managing Director, Marcos Pellegrin, who, in an exclusive interview, said to The Beautiful Game;
“First and foremost, thank you very much Karabo, this partnership with Iber Cup means we will be bringing in our top LaLiga Pro A License coaches to South Africa each and every year to host camps and clinics for South African kids and for South African coaches.
“It is also to transfer our LaLiga knowledge to the kids and also to the local coaches to continue that knowledge in order to grow football in the country. I think it’s going to be very good for both parties (La Liga South Africa and the Iber Cup).
When The Beautiful Game asked Pellegrin of the main objective of this momentous partnership, he said;
“The main objective is to work on football through education, a whole lot of information to give to children and coaches because many of them won’t make it (professionally) so we need to prepare them for life and football is the best tool we can find,” he concluded.
This partnership will see more than 300 kids in South Africa being trained by top youth coaches from LaLiga, where South African youth coaches will also undergo an intensive training program to continue unearthing new, raw, and precocious talent.
