Where Is Oupa Ace Manyisa?

South Africa’s most popular sport, football, can be very unforgiving, and added to that, injury can derail a promising football career. That is the current situation of forgotten man Matthews Oupakie Ace Manyisa.

Manyisa, once the darling of Soweto giants Orlando Pirates Football Club, and the skipper of the team, has fallen on hard times after being released by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila F.C. without kicking the ball in anger.

However, the demise of “Oupakie” occured when he suffered a horrifying injury at The Sea Robbers and later twisting his Achilles tendon for Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the unpopular Shell Helix Cup at the FNB Stadium against Kaizer Chiefs.

Ace never really recovered from the Achilles setback and saw limited game-time at Chloorkop under former gaffer Pitso Jingles Mosimane, and ultimately being released by the club on a Bosman deal.

A source close to the player said to The Beautiful Game;

“Mfethu (my brother), football is something else, who could have thought Manyisa would not have any club today? Who? It is sad and frustrating for him mfethu. But what can we do? We hope he can get any team that can offer him a contract,” concluded the source.

We understand that Ace is currently training on his own to try and keep fit while he waits for an opportunity to return to the professional ranks.
