DSTV Premiership side SuperSport United have punched above their weight this calender year, considering the youthfulness in their squad in this campaign.

Matsatsantsa have an opportunity of qualifying for continental football at the end of the 2020/2021 season, and Kaitano Tembo tells The Beautiful Game how important it is for the club to play in African competitions, saying;

“In terms of continental football, and looking back in terms of where we started the journey of playing in the Confederations Cup, that’s where players like Sipho Mbule, Tebogo Mokoena, started the journey with us to be honest.

“I remember Tebogo made his debut when we played El Shanti in Sudan, and since there he never looked back. We have gave a lot of our youngsters an opportunity to play, I remember as well Sipho Mbule scored a cracker against TP Mazembe in Lumumbashe, so it helps to toughen up our players.

“So that is the stage that we want to try and prepare them; both physically and mentally, because you know sometimes in Africa, it’s always about the mental part, you’ve got to be stronger and it’s even worse now due to COVID-19.

“So we want our young players to go into that environment, that’s why we are always pushing for continental football, because we want our youngsters to have that opportunity to play,” concluded Kaitano.

The capital side travel to Western Cape to face Stellenbosch FC in four days’ time after a full fortnight of inactivity in all competitions, and a victory there would take them closer to Africa.
