What First For Dr. Motsepe At CAF?
Posted: 13 March 2021
Former Mamelodi Sundowns FC owner and billionaire Dr. Patrice Motsepe was yesterday announced and confirmed as the eighth new President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Rabat, Morocco.
The charasmatic, often charming Motsepe will begin his duties on Morning morning, and The Beautiful Game’s African Award-winning football correspondent Baba Mali Traore outlines what the mining giant will need to sort out first, saying;
“Tout d’abord, félicitations à Motsepe, il a bien fait (Firstly, congratulations to Motsepe, he did well). Now the hard work starts for Motsepe, the hard work will need to start and fix the house of CAF, from top to bottom.
“Ce dont il a besoin pour commencer (What he needs to start with) is to change the mind of investors and make them believe and trust CAF, at the moment, it has a tainted public reputation; full of mismanagement of finances and looting.
“Secondly, he needs to acquire the rights of African football – I’m speaking about AFCON, the CAF Champions League, the Confederations Cup, the Super Cup, the rights are in France, we need them here in Africa, Total owns them, we need them here, okay?
“We need to enjoy Al Ahly – the club of the century, TP Mazembe – African giants, the Sundowns – always competing, Enyimba – the sleeping giant and all the big clubs and the emerging clubs, okay? We will support him, and he will need to deliver but get the right people also,” concluded Mali Traore.
Dr. Motsepe will in no uncertain terms have to earn the trust of Football Federations across the continent, and with him set to travel right through African for a meet and greet with all countries, hopefully it will bear fruit.
