Cape Derby Preview: City vs Stellies
Posted: 6 March 2021
The well-manicured pitch of the Cape Town Stadium is set to suffer this afternoon as provincial rivals Cape Town City FC and Stellenbosch are set to do battle.
Stellenbosch go into this encounter desperate for points as they have be in a free-falling mode in recent weeks, which has seen them drop out of the top eight to an alarming number 13 spot on the DSTV Premiership table.
KEY PLAYERS: Cape Town City FC
Surprise Ralani; the experienced winger has been a breath of fresh air this season for City; scoring goals, making goals, dancing past defenders almost at will. Ralani is a trump card for Jan-Olde Riekerink’s side and Stellies will have to be on the look out for him.
Thabo Nodada; the pint-sized midfielder is a proper number six – box-to-box, has the right energy, a knack of scoring important and well manufactured goals, has an ability to dictate matters in the middle of the park on his day, it is no surprise that he is the leader of the pack for The Citizens.
KEY PLAYERS: Stellenbosch FC
Lelethu Skelm; blessed with frightening pace and close-control, Skelm will always be a threat both with the ball at feet and without it, City should be cautious with this man on the turf.
Phathutshedzo Nange; often quiet on the pitch, but his feet does the work, it is no surprise that he will be turning out for the green and gold next season. Nange is a late runner into the final third and will be a threat to City’s defence here, Tashreeq Feelies and his entire back four will have to be wide awake this afternoon.
It’s not a case of if, but or maybe, this promises to be an electrifying match up, with bragging rights on offer should either side pick up maximum points. The match will kickoff at 15:H00 on both the national broadcaster and the pay-television bouquet.
