McCarthy: Why I Joined AmaZulu
Posted: 24 December 2020
Former Bafana Bafana international striker-turned coach, Benni McCarthy tells The Beautiful Game why he signed for AmaZulu two weeks ago.
McCarthy, who also guided Cape Town City FC to the Telkom Knockout trophy a couple of seasons ago before being sacked last year, tells us why he joined Usuthu;
“Your question Karabo in terms of why I joined the team; I see so much potential, you know the signings that the Chairman and the club has made means the intentions are there, you know. They want to compete, they don’t just want to fill the numbers, they want to be up there at the top, and I think when I had my opportunity of my first job as a coach, I didn’t do bad, and I think we over-achieved, very much so.
“And, with what this club has in place already, it’s just for me literally to come in and get to know everybody else, try and get all the players on board and what the club is expecting from us, where the club wants to be. The Chairman wants top four, my ambitions are far more greater than top four my friend,” concluded McCarthy.
The former European Champions League winner oversaw his first league win with Usuthu, a 3-1 victory over out-of-sorts Chippa United, and will be hoping for more points tally in the second half of the campaign.
