Posted: 10 December 2020

Mamelodi Sundowns Defender Anele Ncgonca was today laid to rest in an emotionally-charging send off in his home town of Gugulethu, Cape Town.

Ncgonca, who sadly passed on in a car crash on the 23rd of November 2020 in Durban, was given a heroes sent-off by those near and dear to him.

The Minister of Sports, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa was present at the burial, alongside his former team mates at Sundowns and his family.

The 33-year-old spent most of his football career out in Belgium where he played for Genk CF, winning the Belgian league title, Belgian Super Cup, and the Belgian Cup on two occasions. Ncgonca also featured in Europe’s premium competition, the European Champions League on many occasions, also turning out in the Europa League for the club.

In the South African Premier Soccer League, the soft-spoken Anele lifted the PSL’s winner’s medal on three occasions among many other local Cup competitions.

The Beautiful Game would like to once again send it’s thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the Ncgonca family, Lala Ngo Xolo Tata!
