The Beautiful Game brings you an exclusive chat with former Mamelodi Sundowns FC midfielder Sibusiso Khumalo, once regarded as the next big star in South African football – who recently signed a contract with Equatorial Guinean league Champions Futuro Kings FC.
Khumalo, who joined from Moroka Swallows as a fresh-faced teenager in 2013, takes us through a short journey as to how he joined the club;
Selebalo; Greetings my brother, I hope you haven’t turned super dark having been there in two weeks, let’s go straight into it, How did you join the club?
Sbu Khumalo; (Laughs), I’m good bro, I’m good. Yeah, I got a call from my agent Lebo ‘Guluva’ Mashishi and he told me that there is a team from Equatorial Guinea that is very interested in me and they want me to join them for their Pre-season camp in Cameroon and they told him him that they will book a flight for me and for everything including my visa.
So I went there for an assessment and for them to assess my level of fitness and they were impressed and yeah here I am…they signed me.
Selebalo; How have you adapted to the Club, the coach, your team mates and the culture there?
Sbu Khumalo; I can say I adapted very well at the club and they welcomed me to the team with warm hands; both the coach and the players were so good to me and their culture as well is good nje the problem at the moment is the language Karabo, ehh yah neh they speak French and Spanish hahaha kubi (it’s difficultfor me) but ke they are a very good team.
Selebalo; How long is your deal for at Futuro Kings FC?
Sbu Khumalo; I’ve signed for 1 season my brother.
Selebalo; Sbu, from all of us here from The Beautiful Game, thank you very much for your time. We wish you the very best and hope to see you back in the DSTV Premiership soon.
Sbu Khumalo; Hahahaha yeah bro, I’ll work hard but it’s a good team here and I’m happy for now.
The Beautiful Game will bring you all the progress of the often quiet Khumalo during his time out in Equatorial Guinea and we wish him all the best during his stay at Futuro Kings FC.
